Your new artwork has been printed to exacting standards, producing an archival-quality piece which, with proper care, will last many decades. Here are a few tips to help keep those prints vibrant and beautiful:
- Open your package with caution, so as not to damage the contents.
- Be careful to avoid dents and creases, as these might be very difficult or impossible to remove. If buying unframed prints rolled in a tube, unroll your print very carefully.
- Handle unframed art by the edges, or while wearing cotton gloves. Body oils, lotions, and other contaminants can cause discoloration.
- Acrylic and Metal prints are beautiful, but are not scratch-proof. Handle with care!
- Canvas, if handled roughly, can be punctured or torn. Handle your canvas prints as gently as you would an original painting.
- Ideally, art prints should be displayed in indirect lighting conditions. UV rays from direct sunlight are especially harmful, and may cause fading and discoloration, over time.
- Display your prints away from moisture (including steam). Prolonged exposure to smoke can also be damaging -- especially if the print is not professionally framed and protected.
- If you plan DIY framing, choose acid-free materials for mats and backing, and U/V protected glass (or an acrylic/Plexiglas equivalent).
- Because the face of the print should never directly touch the glass/acrylic, it's important to use an acid-free mat or spacers in your framing treatment.
Enjoy your new artwork!
